In Gerry's Name

The Gerry McHugh Scholarship

Honouring a teacher who believed in every young person he met — supporting the next generation of Notre Dame pupils to thrive.

Notre Dame High School: The Gerry McHugh Scholarship

Following the untimely death of our beloved Gerry in April 2020, to ensure his legacy lived on in each and every one of us, we renewed and dedicated three new school values in Gerry's memory. Our 3 core values of Belief, Perseverance and Respect epitomise the teacher, friend and mentor that Gerry was to us all, we continue to live by these values across our entire school community today.

To reflect and celebrate Gerry's generosity of spirit, the staff of Notre Dame High School wished to start a scholarship in his name, offering support to one or more school leavers each year as they progressed on to higher education. Recipients of the scholarship embody our three values of Belief, Perseverance and Respect, they may have used these values to overcome barriers during their time at Notre Dame High School. Thanks to a generous donation from Gerry's cousin, the scholarship began in October 2021 and has continued ever since.

To raise funds to sustain and ensure the longevity of the scholarship fund, Mr Armour and his team launched the Gerry McHugh Festival of Football in Summer 2022 – an annual celebration supported by our school community. June 2026 marks the 5th Festival of Football – we thank everyone who has supported us over the years and we look forward to celebrating its continued success in memory of our beloved friend, Gerry. #monehdame
